[Review] Franch Coconut Herbal Hair Oil

Hello there! This is my first review for products I've used thus far. Currently, I'm using Franch Coconut Herbal Hair Oil to nourish my hair (because my hair seriously needs it!). I bought mine at AA pharmacy, one of my fav pharmacies where everything is so cheap and sells a wide range of products!

My hair type: FINE & OILY. In just a day after washing my hair, it gets coated with oil and looks really greasy. Definitely not the hair you'd want to present to the world to see! It also doesn't help that my hair is fine so when it gets oily, my hair appears so little- it's depressing, I know.

Most people would wonder why I'd even want to apply more OIL to my oily scalp? Believe it or not, specific kinds of oils can bring loads of wonderful benefits to our hair! For example, rosemary oil, jojoba oil and lavender oil. Although my hair is oily, that is only true for the parts near my scalp as my scalp is oily as well but the bottom parts of my hair are slightly frizzy and dare I admit, dry.

Franch Coconut Herbal Hair Oil is enriched with Vetiver grass, Henna and Castor oil that will strengthen hair strand from root to tip, giving your hair volume and thickness you always desired. Its unique formulation helps restore hair growth, prevents breakage and hair loss and reverses the effects of hair thinning.

:: Here comes the special part of this oil! ::

Franch Coconut Herbal Hair Oil formulation is a new and revolutionary 'pre-wash' scalp and hair treatment. This unique hair oil is specially formulated to absorb into the scalp within 20 minutes after application. After 20 minutes you may wash off with Franch Herbal Shampoo leaving your hair non-sticky and oil-free.

:: Ingredients ::

Coconut oil extract, lawsonia Inermis extract (henna extract), Vetiveria zizanioides extract, pure refines coconut oil, mineral oil, Cl color, fragrance, franch oil

So far I'm satisfied with this product and it does what it says. My hair doesn't break or fall out and feels well-conditioned. The best part is I seriously feel that my hair is getting thicker and more volumized. I had a friend who had long thick hair and her secret was applying coconut oil every morning and this worked for me too! I also like how mild the scent is. As this is a pre-wash hair oil, I do not need to worry about looking greasy as I just rub it into my scalp and hair, wait, then wash it out. Another trick is to apply a bit onto the ends of your hair to have a more lasting effect.

Soy Milk Soap

Many people drink soy milk, but did you know you can get many of the same benefits by using soy milk on your skin? Soy milk is a favorite among nutrition experts, who believe that soy extract is mandatory for total bath and body health.Soy milk is chock full of proteins, amino acids, and lipids found in soy beans that allow for rapid hydration and cell regeneration. Soy also has a natural source of phytoestrogens, which are beneficial in the regeneration of a woman’s skin. Phytoestrogens help women keep a youthful appearance as they replicate female hormones. Soy lipids are high in vitamin E, which helps to regenerate damaged tissue and brings moisture to the skin. What about aging? Soy also is instrumental in repairing the skin, and keeping it soft and flexible, therefore avoiding the natural process of aging. Soy lipids are also a good antioxidant and aid in eliminating free radicals from the skin.

Soy milk was used as my choice as water base for the first batch of soap because not only was it good for our skin (and my wallet!), but the place selling it was located conveniently nearby as well. I bought the soy milk from an Uncle who sells soy milk, along with taufufa, guilinggao and herbal drinks around my university (IMU) on his truck.

Now, when sodium hydroxide (lye) reacts with the water base, a great amount of heat will be produced. I read that it was best to freeze milks and let the lye do all the melting so that the temperature does not increase too dramatically.

For this batch of soap, I used a slotted spoon and wooden spoon alternately (because I wanted to have fun with both utensils!) to mix the ingredients. You can bet your money I wished for a stick blender to appear right then and there, which is why I am seriously going to get a one in the time to come. After I achieved trace, I poured the mixture into the mold and left it for a good 33 hours before unmolding and it turned out beautiful. My initial concern was that the soap would have been too hard to cut since it was suggested to cut after about 16 hours but I could not do so as I just arrived home from Johor after taking MUET.

Leaving the soaps to cure for 4 weeks. Sprinkled oatmeal on top to make it look more delicious!

TADAAA! Introducing....100% VEGAN TOFU SOAP (unscented)

Ingredients: organic soy milk, coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, castor oil

The mold holds about 350g of soap, and I sliced the loaf of soap into 7 pieces. But as you can see, there are 3 smaller slices because I simply do not have the patience to wait for a month to use my soaps, so decided to use the smaller slices perhaps after 2 weeks to test it out.

Soapmaking is such an enjoyable and fruitful process! I definitely plan to make a greater array of soaps as I have received positive responses and requests from family and friends. My next batch of soap have yet to be decided as I am tied up with studies and busy schedules but I am thinking of beer soap and honey oat soap.

It's getting late and I better hit the sack. Good night all!

Soaping & Soap Lab

I can't recall precisely what triggered me to enter the world of soaping, but I was definitely inspired by an online shop called 'Earth Care Soaps' where I first got all my organic skin goodies from. The feeling of applying something so wonderfully organic and healthy made my skin happy. handmade soaps are much better for our skin and is friendly to our beloved environment! From now onwards, I am going to stick to natural handmade soaps. Why? Look at the table below to see the comparisons between handmade and commercial soaps.

The equation for soaps is pretty simple: Lye + Oils = SOAP.

The quality of the soap would depend on your ingredients of choice and where they come from matters as well to certain soapers. Most importantly, the ratio of ingredients (which I still have trouble with actually, thank goodness for the soap calculator!) The tools and equipment for making soap like molds, cutters and stick blender would make the job less tedious. Perhaps I would purchase these in the future when I decide to make soaps in bulk!

Due to budget constrain, I ordered a DIY breastmilk soap kit from Soap Lab (http://www.soaplabmalaysia.com/) for RM49.00. Price includes a silicone mold!

Excited to make my first batch of soaps!

The birth of a blog

Hello world!

My name is Alexis.
I am a food-loving 21-year-old human female from the humble land of Borneo but currently residing in Kuala Lumpur. An absolute crochet addict and yarnaholic since September 2013 and has not put the down the hook and yarn since. A newbie soaper and also a big fat shopaholic on the road to recovery.

I wanted to start a blog since the beginning of 2015 but as you can see, I'm a month late. My main purpose of this blog is to create an e-journal kinda thing, to write about my life and especially to keep track of my crafting activities like my crochet and soap work, along with some random DIYs that suddenly comes to my mind.

Thanks for reading!
